Instructions for official X-ray imaging

Welcome to your official X-ray imaging appointment! To make your visit go as smoothly as possible and to keep the results reliable, please read the following instructions carefully before coming to the clinic.

1. Before your visit

  • Omakoira referral: Make a referral for official X-rays in advance via the Finnish Kennel Club’s Omakoira system.
  • Registration certificate: You do not need to bring a paper registration certificate if your dog is registered with the Finnish Kennel Club. The dog’s details are retrieved via its microchip at check-in.

2. Preparing at home

  • Fasting: The imaging is done under sedation, so the dog must fast from food for 6–8 hours before the visit. Water may be available as normal.
  • Walking: Let your dog relieve itself thoroughly right before coming in. Faecal matter in the intestine can reduce the quality of the X-rays and hamper interpretation.
  • The sedative we use stimulates bowel activity, so careful walking helps us avoid accidents indoors and on the examination table.

3. Arriving at the clinic

  • Check-in: Come to the reception desk to check in first, without your dog. Our staff will guide you from there.
  • Group screenings: Please arrive only shortly before your own imaging time. The clinic’s facilities and parking are limited while other clinic work is ongoing.

4. Results and withdrawal period

  • Statements: The clinic is only responsible for taking the images. The X-rays are sent electronically to the Finnish Kennel Club, which issues the official statements. The clinic does not give preliminary statements on the images.
  • Withdrawal period: The withdrawal period for the sedatives we normally use is 7 days.
